The Plauer See lies in the middle of the attractive Mecklenburg lake district, 30 kilometres west of Waren and 80 kilometres south of Rostock. You can reach the island by car easily via a bridge, but the rest of the nature reserve has no roads. Instead it features many hiking trails. You can also explore the nearby Nossentiner/ Schwinzer Heide Heath and Müritz national park. The Alt Schwerin train station is only 3 kilometres away and the Malchow motorway exit is just 7 kilometres away.
